Welcome Back! OK, so, two weeks ago we talked a little bit about being happy (content) with being a Work at Home Mom.  I hope and pray that you took some time to really read through what we talked about, as well as claiming victory in the opportunity to actually be a Work at Home Mom.

Here's a quick little refresher about what we talked about earlier this month;

Romans 12:2 (NIV) Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

(That is one of my ABSOLUTE favorite verses...as a matter of fact it is my Mel's World with Melissa Mashburn ministry verse)

Ladies...you and I are called to be different.  So, why don't we start TODAY by taking that FIRST step in being HAPPY.

TO BE A WORK AT HOME MOM by learning to be more CONTENT!  You can do it...I know you can!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So, here we are two weeks later and I hope that even in the midst of the chaos that happens this time of year that we still have been able to STOP and celebrate the blessing of being Content  to be Working at Home.
I think for so many of us Work at Home Moms we get "stuck" in that never ending cycle of why bother, what if, and the blah blah blahs.  You know that feeling when it's almost one of two extremes; 1) I don't feel like doing ANYTHING, and 2) I can't get enough done.  ( I know I do )
Somehow we are either cranking things out and being SUPER productive or we can't seem to get a SINGLE thing done.  We're riding high or we're really low and guess what...that feeds into the lack of contentment to be working at home.
I am beginning to learn that it is the sweet, simple things of life which are the real ones after all.  -Laura Ingalls Wilder
Here's the deal, you only get ONE chance to be home with your kids.  As a mom of a tween (almost teen) and a teenager I have to tell you that the time goes by so quickly that one day you wake up and wish you were able to be there for more of it.
Thankfully I have been blessed to be able to be a Work at HomeTWO times, yep, I am truly a blessed woman.  I stayed home for the first nine years that my kids were little, then felt called to go into ministry at a church in the Ft. Lauderdale area where I worked for over four years.  When I was there I worked over 60 hours a week, was extremely stressed out, lost complete balance of my life and my time, and also missed out on most of my kids elementary years.  I loved what I did, and I was good at it, but I missed out on what God called me to FIRST and that was my FAMILY!
Time is like a river.
You cannot touch the same water twice,
Because the flow that has passed will never pass again.
Enjoy every moment of life…
So many times we get stuck into thinking that life has to be this perfectly pieced together pretty package.  We want our Work at Home life to fit into this "ideal" model ( see below ) that society has told us is completely attainable ( and it might be for some ).
The trouble with the fairy tale "ideal" model is that it doesn't involve real life.  With the kids tugging on your leg, with them fighting in the other room, with a toddler on your lap while you work, with a sick child screaming and crying in your ear, and it certainly isn't "pretty" like it is in that "fairy tale office".  It really looks a whole lot more like the picture below.
Messy, chaotic, frantic, start, stop, lunch, coffee, change a diaper, put on a TV show, time for nap, time for a feeding, more mommy time, snuggle on the couch, do the laundry, wash the dishes, change another diaper, someone needs to eat again, more laundry, more dishes, and so much more.
No wonder we struggle with being HAPPY to be a Work at Home Mom!  But you know what the cool thing is?  God knows EXACTLY where you are RIGHT NOW.  None of this is a surprise to Him, nothing is catching Him off guard, nothing is sneaking up on Him from left field.  He's God, the Everywhere at One time God.  He knew that you would be RIGHT WHERE YOU ARE and He has you there for a reason.
1 Peter 5:6 ~ So be content with who you are, and don't put on airs. God's strong hand is on you; he'll promote you at the right time. Live carefree before God; he is most careful with you.
Ladies, if there is ONE THING that I would love for you to walk away with is this... you only get ONE CHANCE with your FAMILY, please don't miss out on it.  Yes, you have chosen to be WORK AT HOME MOMS, but I know even with myself, I can be there, but not really be there.  Do you know what I mean?
You're there in body, but your mind is elsewhere. Come on, I know I am not the only one who has done that before...fess up!  No, really.
This Christmas take these two posts, pray about it, journal about it, grab your Bible and search out these scripture verses. But really, take some time and figure out what you need to do to truly be HAPPY TO BE A WORK AT HOME MOM!
You deserve it and so does your family!   I will be praying for you as you seek His direction.  If you want to talk about this a little more I would love for you to come and visit with me over at the  Mom Works at Home Group over at Christian Women Take Root.
Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a healthy, happy, and Christ filled New Year.  I can't wait to see what 2009 has in store for us all!  Much Love & Prayers, Melissa
Melissa Sig Enjoy
