Detours, Determination and Destiny

Posted Jan 19 2010 10:20pm

Silent Sufferers with Shannon Heiden

Beautiful One, have you been cruising along the freeway of life and suddenly found yourself on an unexpected detour? When detours arise without warning, it is hard to react quick enough to get back on track; we just hold and hope for the best.

DBeautifuletours, bumps in the road, and even road blocks happen to everyone. Some are foreseeable and we can sometimes avoid them. However, there are obstacles that come out of nowhere like the loss of a job, physical or mental abuse, an affair, or even illness. Maybe a loved one dies. Maybe you woke up one day and realized you're addicted. These are just a few of the unexpected detours that insert themselves into our lives.

These sudden back roads can be painful and difficult to recover from. It doesn't help that we alienate ourselves from others. Systematically we push others away as the pain festers within because we feel afraid and misunderstood. Slowly but surely we become the product of complacency, tolerance and indecision. As time passes, we become so familiar on our detoured route that even if we wanted to make a turn for the better, the fear is so great within us, that we opt to stay in our misery.

Beautiful One, have you become indifferent and given up? Have you tried and failed, then failed some more. It is easy to get discouraged and lose faith along the way. Somewhere between tears and sorrows, the pain tells us that believing just hurts too much. At this point, the tendency is to surrender hope.

If this is you, I have something to say: Start over and do it again!

Try again. Believe and hope again. Determine in your heart that where you're at and where you've been is not your final destination!  You may not even know where your going, but you know when you are getting back on track. And the beauty of it is, if you'll give God the steering wheel, He'll take the wheel.

The fact that you are here today means that God is not done with you yet. He has a plan, and all you really have to do to start seeing it, is just believe it.

JhgfSounds simple doesn't it? But when you are afraid, alone, grieving, addicted or hurting, and you are unhealed and guarded. So, even something as simple as "just believing" can seem impossible. When you've experienced multiple losses in your life, the thought of winning seems impossible; it is hard to see beyond our wounds and tragedies.

Beautiful One, with God we can move triumph and move past our wounds and become winners! The Bible says "God is a present help in times of trouble" (Psalm 46:1 KJV). Despite what we may feel, God is with us in all of our times of trouble. However, sometimes when we feel like we are a mess and God cannot help us, we think He turns only to those that are fixable. This is not true!

BeautyThe truth is; Jesus will leave the ninety nine to go search out the one who is the biggest mess of all. You know, the one who is alone, lost and afraid. Your God will walk through a desert in the hottest part of the day to sit and wait for you, just to tell you everything you need to hear. He will search you out when you are fearful and hiding in that cave of a room you've confined yourself to. He will call you by your true name; mighty one of valor. He will tell of your beauty when you act ugly. He will sing of your praises when all you've done is curse. He will speak of plenty in times of lack, because God knows all that He created you to be, and to have, and from where your sitting right now, this is not it.

There is more for you, so much more.

Today, is a new day. Determine to see the beauty in everything. Detours are stepping stones into our destiny! Today thank God for the detours. Determine that their all part of the plan. Determine in your heart that God will use all the bumps and roadblocks together for our good. And surely get us to our destination.

Beautiful One, just believe again.
