Another Diagnosis

Posted Jan 27 2009 8:10pm
I was diagnosed with something else today.

A couple of weeks ago, I got a callback from my Doctor asking me to come in and see him about some blood work I had done. I kept telling myself that it was something to do with my Thyroid, since we'd been raising that medication pretty steady.

When I went into the room, I asked him to take my blood pressure before following him into his office. I guess I wanted my nerves calmed a little. He said my blood work shows that I have Normocytic Anemia. Some of the symptoms are being tired, sluggish and light-headed. These are true for me. After explaining to me what that meant, I asked how it happened. That's what we need to figure out. I need to have my iron levels tested, and I need an ultrasound on my spleen - to make sure it's the right size. Once the results come back from those two tests, we'll reassess to see where we need to go from there.

I know in my mind that it's probably nothing serious causing the low hemoglobin levels, but that only helps a little in keeping the panic away. My mom's blood is low, really low. She needs iron. In fact, she was losing so much blood from menstration that she needed a partical hysterectomy. My Doctor said that in the next stage, my uterus may need to be examined.

Anyway, until it's all figured out, it's feeling a little freaky. The Unknown and the Uncertain always are.

So, if you have any insight on any of these, please feel free to comment. If you don't, then letting me know you are praying for me will be quite comforting.

To end on a positive note - my thyroid is at a normal level!!! :)
