The American Wind Energy Association reported last week that the amount of new wind power installed in 2007 grew 45% from the year before. So that means that wind power accounts for... still just 1% of U.S. power production.
According to AWEA, the industry invested $9 billion in wind power last year, mostly by utilities seeking green alternatives or being forced to adhere to state mandates for renewable electricity. That's compared to the roughly $4 billion invested in 2006. We here in the voluntary carbon offset industry can claim about $15.5 million of that investment as coming from our donors and customers, according to a study from EcoSystem Marketplace .
$15.5 million may sound like small potatoes compared to $9 billion - but that's why we call ourselves pioneers, "leading the way." Every dollar of investment counts! Slowly but surely Carbonfund.org and other groups like us are helping to drive down the cost of wind power and hastening our transition to a clean energy future.
