What are Your Summer Favorites?

Posted Aug 24 2008 5:40pm

What books or movies help you kick off the summer months? Is there a classic book (Twain's The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn? ) or a newer title (Jon Krakauer's Into the Wild ?) that gets you in the mood for the long days?

Is there an inspiring scene in an outdoorsy summer movie -- Meryl Streep taking the oars in The River Wild perhaps, or the bad son catching that fish in A River Runs Through It - -- that spells S-U-M-M-E-R for you?

What books or movies from your childhood --great ones and even the horribly awful ones -- remind you of summertime? (Admit it, you still like Jaws .)

What books and movies have inspired your kids to want to jump up and hug a tree? Just jot down your favorite titles, tell us a little about why they inspire you, and email them to reed.mcmanus@sierraclub.org , for the chance to be featured in Sierra magazine.
