Which came first ~ the chicken or the egg? Now, I'm not an environmental fanatic, but I do believe that God wants us to be good stewards of the earth and keep a clean, safe environment for the future generations.
My husband and I are members of Costco and we shop there for groceries and so many other things. We're big fans of this warehouse chain store. As a Costco member, we receive a monthly lifestyle magazine for members, The Costco Connection.
I was reading through the magazine yesterday and noticed that Costco has been trying to bring in more products in their stores that are organic and from farmers and producers that are environmentally conscious. My husband and I used to shop at Wholefoods when we first got married, but after a few years, we were not able to continue shopping there. We really enjoyed purchasing healthy, organic foods, but soon came to realize that the expense was too much for our budget.
Now that we shop at Costco, we are definitely saving money and I really like the fact that they are bringing in more organic foods into their food produce lines. One article that caught my eye was "The Chicken, the egg and the future: Seeking sustainable supplies for a growing planet," by Tim Talevich. It shares the story of Wilcox Farms, a fourth generation, family run farm, which is one of the leading egg producers in the Pacific Northwest. If you would like to check out this story, here's the link: http://www.costcoconnection.com/connection/201108#pg26
What are your thoughts on this issue? Do you care about environmental issues? Or are you more middle-of-the-road when it comes to saving the planet? We'd love to hear your thoughts.
