Remember making paper hand turkeys to celebrate Thanksgiving? Those fond childhood memories inspired us to create a reusable turkey puppet using a few common household items. So while that delicious dinner is cooking in the oven, you can keep the kids (or adults) entertained with this fun craft project.
Here's a new twist on an old classic:
Turkey Hand Puppet
What you need:
a pair of gloves
buttons or beads
What to do:
Kids can take an old pair of everyday gloves and turn them into turkey puppets with this simple craft. First, grab some old magazines and have the kids cut out finger-sized strips of vibrant colored sections.
Then cut the tip of each strip into a pointed, arrow shape. Using the scissors, make half inch slits up each side so that the strips resemble feathers. Repeat with all strips of colored paper.
When done cutting up the strips, apply a thin layer of glue to the back part of the gloves' fingers one at a time (minus the thumb!), then press and hold the strips of colored paper to the glove until the glue has dried. *Note* if having your paper "feathers" on the back of the gloves isn't enough for you, you can always add more to the front part as well, they just won't be functional gloves any longer.
Find some colorful beads, buttons, or googly eyes and glue them to the the sides of the gloves' thumb spots. Cut out triangles of magazine paper and attach them to the tips of the thumbs for "beaks". Then attach a 1-2 inch strip of curled red ribbon just underneath the orange triangle. You now have a cute and reusable turkey puppet.
