You may recognize Seamus Dever from Castle , an ABC show about an author and a detective who solve violent crimes together. But Dever says he was better known as "that soap-opera guy who comes to work on a red bicycle," back when gas prices in L.A. were skyrocketing .
Motivated to reduce his carbon footprint, Dever, along with Castle producer and co-star Stana Katic , joined the Sierra Club's Alternative Travel Project (ATP) to learn more about how get out from behind the steering wheel.
The concept behind ATP is to abstain from vehicles for a week, instead using transportation that won't contribute to carbon emissions. Katic and Dever walked, biked, and took public transit to stay true to the cause. Other people involved with the show followed their cue: other producers and the show's director of photography have also taken the challenge.
But you don't have to be a fictional TV crime-solver to get in on the action. Many Sierra Club members have participated, as evidenced by the array of pictures sent into ATP's website.
