We all need some spice in our lives and there’s no better sprinkle than a Fairtrade and organic spice mix to accompany our favourite dishes. Eleni Sardi writes about the new range by Steenbergs Organic for the big Fairtrade Fortnight swap.
Steenbergs Organic has just launched three new spices carrying the Fairtrade mark – organic Fairtrade curry powder, organic Fairtrade garam masala and organic Fairtrade cardamom pods.
This is a perfect way to spice up your curries doing it the organic way with the added bonus of the Fairtrade seal of approval. Steenbergs was the first British Fairtrade spice business and remains a pioneer for Fairtrade spices, sourcing directly from growers in 9 countries and 20 projects.
As Sophie Steenberg, founder of the company with husband Axel says: ‘Working direct with producers has always been at the heart of Steenbergs and we have been delighted to develop additional Fairtrade spices as the standards come in place. Axel has been working on a Fairtrade curry mix sometime – one that didn’t compromise our high standards on flavour but worked within the Fairtrade standards – we are delighted with the resulting blends.’
You can also find a whole range of other spices in the Steenbergs Fairtrade organic range including turmeric, ginger, white and black peppercorns, cinnamon powder, sticks and quills, cloves and mixed spice.
