The latest collection from Sonya Kashmiri’s range of accessories for autumn/ winter 2010 was on show at Esthetica for London Fashion Week. Jenny Butlerwent along to have a look.
This season’s collection is inspired by nature and the changing of the seasons. Sonya Kashmiri said she was interested in the exterior shape of beetles, buildings and organic shapes that she had seen outdoors.
You can see this in the smooth, shell like shape of her bags and the simplicity of the outside, with very little added detail, keeping the bags clean and classic.
A new shade of nude has been added to the collection to contrast and compliment the ash black and ebony leathers that are organic and the whole process is fully certified.
Utilising the wisdom of 80 years of tanning, the vegetable tanned leather gets darker as it wears.
Wax is used instead of chrome and recycled leather is used inside the bags so there is no synthetic foam in sight. The bag is lined with organic cotton and linen so there is not too much hardware in the bag.
Sonya sees the bags she makes as an investment, something that should last and get a lot of wear.
She wants her products to be as sustainable as possible and they use the leather leftovers to hold together their look book and as straps on the bags instead of using metal hoops. Nothing is thrown away.
Our favourite pick from the collection is the Miss Biddy clutch bag with bellow side pockets, encompassing and interior zip and a magnetic strap fastening.
We also love the shoulder bag called Miss Elizabeth. It is a classic and perfect for carrying around all your bits and bobs and it has an attractive linked leather handle and interior and exterior pockets.
