Moms control something like 86% of a household's purchasing decisions. Moms, therefore, can change the world by first choosing to refuse and reuse. And then, by choosing trustworthy eco products.
That's why today, on March 4, I am marching forth with a sister blog to FoodShed Planet, a place to list those products I love and make it easy for other eco-moms like me to see what's road-tested and trustworthy and, basically, worth it, both in terms of cost and potential to make positive changes in the world (as well as broad availability either through retail locations or the Internet). Things that are, frankly,
eco-momical. Hence,
EcoMomical.
For those who haven't met me yet, I'm Pattie Baker. I'm a
professional eco-writer and a mom.
I live in the suburbs, much to my shock, and I live on a budget, much to my challenge. I don't believe that eco options are only for the wealthy, or that they are good simply because they have the word "eco" attached to them. I like an authentic back-story that can help me teach my children about treading lighter on the earth as well. GMO soy-fabric designer shirts for 100 bucks? You're not going to find them recommended on EcoMomical.
EcoMomical is economical in words as well:
* Short, why-I-recommend descriptions, often with links back to longer write-ups on FoodShed Planet.
* A photo, if I have it (which, usually, I will).
* The cost, because a few bucks here and few bucks there adds up, fast.
* And where-to-buy info, including links to the manufacturer's website.
Disclaimer: I receive no payment from companies to blog about their products, and sending me your product is no guarantee that I will talk about it. I intend to write only about products that I
love.
To submit a product to be road-tested as a possible EcoMomical Choice, mail it to:
EcoMomical
P.O. Box 88043
Atlanta, GA 30356
USA
I'll be happy to return your item, if possible (meaning, if it's not chocolate!), if you include return postage.
UPDATE: March 7, 2008 Well, well, well, if this is not fun, I don't know what is. EcoMomical now features moms/mums from around the world, starting with myself and Kate from Australia! We are looking for blogger-moms who are passionate about sustainability and "voting with their dollar" to join us on Ecomomical as the reps for their countries. Together, we can shout it out around the world about eco-conscious, affordable products we love.
