Handmade Toys Aren’t So Hard.

Posted Aug 26 2008 11:36pm

I was reading a post about handmade toys over at Angry chicken, (Thanks Shannon for the link) and started thinking about my own handmade toy making. Less talented than most, my creations often have the look of sad puppies.

But, since I’ve been on a “ saving everything in sight” kick recently, we have lots of “stuff” with which to make toys. And I’m amazed at how much my DS enjoys my rather, rough creations.

My favorites:

Paper towel and toilet paper roll marble run
Empty dishwashing liquid squirt bottles
Bent cardboard tents for little figures

My DS is more into accessories and has created the following:

Rocket pack for his Playmobil soldier

Airport control tower made with old modems and cords, and cheap airline headsets

Tow rope for his toy airplane

It seems fewer toys mean more creativity – duh! Maybe we won’t have to worry about toy shortages this Christmas…
