Father's Day Special: International Surfing Day is This Sunday
Posted Jun 17 2010 11:05am
This Sunday, grab Dad and head to a beach near you to celebrate the sixth annual International Surfing Day . The event's founders, the Surfrider Foundation and Surfing magazine, have a simple goal: to raise awareness about protecting beaches by cleaning them, then riding the perfect wave.
Whether you’re Kelly Slater or a foam-board newbie, the day will have something for everyone, including prizes from Vans , Spy , and DVS for the most environmentally conscious and creative winners of these challenges .
Last year, during Rip Curl 's “Search but Don’t Destroy” contest, surfers converted a diesel Ford F-250 truck to run on vegetable oil for eco-friendlier wave-searching.This year, you can try to win “Most Alternative Material Ridden on a Wave” or “Best Trash Skateboard."
