Edible Atlanta Job Opportunity

Posted Oct 21 2008 12:13am

Saturday morning. Sleep in, at least a little (got up at 5:30 instead of 5 this morning and I already had emails from farmers!). Have a long, lazy cup of locally-roasted coffee. Articles to research and write this weekend. People to see. Farms to visit. Meals to make. A garden to tend. In all honesty, it's not that different from the rest of my week. My vocation and avocation have blended together, the things I read for pleasure are the same things I read for work, the line between colleague and friend has blurred, and I now stand there blankly when someone asks that quintessentially-American party question, "What do you do?" I don't do. I now am. The contents of my life are adding up, little by little, to paint a truer picture of the life I am striving to live.

Want the contents of your life to add up a little closer to your evolving vision of yourself? Not so sure your job is the best fit for you? If you love searching out local food, and if you have advertising sales experience, then this may be a Saturday to remember. My Edible Atlanta editor, Amanda Dew Manning, asked if I'd get the word out about an ad sales opening at Edible Atlanta. Launched in November, 2006, Edible Atlanta is a high-end quarterly food magazine celebrating the bounty of local foods season by season. There have now been three issues of Edible Atlanta published, with the most recent one significantly fatter with ads from local food producers, farmers, restaurants, markets, and more. Edible Atlanta is part of the Edible Communications family of award-winning local publications around the United States.

Amanda and her husband, Robert, the publisher of Edible Atlanta, are looking for someone experienced in sales, with an interest
in, and knowledge of, the food scene in the Atlanta area. Existing contacts
with local food-related businesses is a big plus. This is a great
opportunity for someone with at least two years sales experience and there is good growth potential. Additional opportunities exist to sell national ads for 30 other Edible magazines across the country. This is a commission based position. Oh, and don't forget those occasional Edible Atlanta parties. A definite perk.
