It appears as though the environmental movement is taking a dangerous turn, with crimes of clean energy starting to pop up all over the nation. No where is this more evident than in California, where solar panels are being stolen right from people's roofs! The New York Times reported on this story:
Investigators do not believe the thieves are acting out of concern for their carbon footprints. Rather, authorities assume that many panels make their way to unwitting homeowners, sometimes via the Internet.
I don't necessarily believe that. Maybe people are just really getting caught up in the clean energy revolution and want to be part of the solution by producing their own power. But there are a few problems with stealing solar panels: they are heavy, I am pretty sure that it is illegal, and the owners get mad.
One victim o f solar thievery said, “I have a shotgun right next to the bed and a .22 under my pillow.”
That would keep me away.
So for those of us that don't have solar panels and don't have the nerve to steal them, there is hope! You can offset with Carbonfund.org and chose clean energy like solar and wind. At Carbonfund.org, it is your carbon, your choice -- meaning that when you donate to us you can chose to have your money go towards reforestation, energy efficiency, renewable energy, or a basket of the three.
Next time you get that urge to climb on to your neighbors roof and unscrew their solar panels, stop, don't do it, and got to Cabonfund.org and get your renewable energy the safe and legal way.
