Dell Inspiron 1545 Battery - A Good Performer under the Hood

Posted Jun 05 2013 3:57am

Although all those higher end gaming and other high graphics laptop are launched every day, there is still a market for medium budget laptops with just basic features required for some basic function. Dell Inspiron 1545 is one among those and is best appreciated by most school students, as it fulfills all their demands. What features matter most for students? A large screen and more storage space right? Dell has exactly given those sacrificing high graphic adapters, so that they can be sold at a medium price. Although we appreciate that Dell has made it possible available at such a price, we are still wondering if the Dell Inspiron 1545 battery would be enough for daily tasks. The Inspiron 1545 battery clocks just three hours, which is a bit of a worry. The Dell Inspiron 1545 adapter (graphics component) also adds to the woes of bad battery life. The battery performance is discussed below in details.

A point worth mentioning is that the laptop is also called as the MTV laptop as it sponsored the MTV music awards 2009.

Design:

Weighing at almost 6 pounds, it is not the heavy laptop or the opposite. Saying this, it sits right in between mainstream laptops and desktop PCs. The laptop features a 15.6-inch display, which is colorful and vibrant. The display can support a maximum resolution of 1366 x 768p. Dell did not fail to give it a glossy finish, which runs all around the keyboard except for the display and keyboard. The fingerprint issue is a point worth worrying but many out there do not consider it as an issue.

Performance and Connectivity options:

With a dual core processor under the hood, it clocked 2GHz speed. The Dell Inspiron 1545 adapter is impressive. The Nvidia CUDA works pretty well, despite the lack of a dedicated graphics card. The laptop has one of the worst battery lives with just three hours squeeze time. Adding to the woe, the CPU features a TDP of 35 watts, which means, Dell has clearly not built it as an energy efficient device. Dell has utilized all three sides of the laptop. The ports are all neatly arranged on the sides. It is good that the headphone and the microphone jack are upfront which makes it easy to access. The front portion is also utilized to for the car reader slot. At the sides are three USB ports, mini HDMI output and the Ethernet slot. Except for one USB port, all other are located towards the left side of the laptop.

We have mixed feeling about the keyboard as well as battery for Dell Inspiron 1545. The feedback of the keys is not satisfying. The keys although having big enough, the straight laid design are what annoy us. Touchpad on the contrast is however satisfying. It supports multi-touch features and offers perfect resistance. We like that Dell allows us to customize the up down, left-right scroll area. The presence of multi-touch features also confirms that we can zoom in to web pages with just a pinch of the finger.

Conclusion:

Although Dell launched it as an entertainment laptop, its design and features clearly indicate that it can be best utilized by the students and can be used for nominal home purposes. If you could adjust with the bad Dell battery and the keyboard, it would be a good deal for you.
