Now I know this is nothing like what Florida and the south get from hurricanes, but man what a crazy day for weather in Northern California!
30 -40 MPH sustained winds with gusts in the valley of up to 60 MPH. The Sierras are getting wind speeds of 70 - 100 MPH. Lots of rain and thankfully snow in the Sierras.
Our Camphor tree in the front yard was damaged to the extent that it now has to be removed (pictured above). It was a female tree and it produced many seeds in the summer which weighed heavily on the branches. This storm did it in.
The plants were pretty windswept but fared OK. News broadcasters pinned the wind speeds at "once in a decade" and they lived up to the hype.
Finally, despite the high winds and heavy rain nature adapts, I caught the photo above of doves taking refuge under our patio. Since our cats were taking refuge either inside the house or garage, I guess they had nothing to fear.

Definitely a day I won't forget.
Cheers!
