I don't own a car, but the more I read about electric vehicles or plug-in hybrids, the more my caveman, millennium-old instinctual urge to go to strait to the nearest car dealership so I can put the pedal to the metal calls to me. I've been known to literally drool while looking at theTesla Motors Web site(0-60 in 3.9 seconds), and I was only slightly less impressed staring at the photo of what our partner Volkswagen is billing as theworld's most fuel efficient car, at 235 mpg.
Now, VW has announced plans for aplug-in electric hybridvehicle.Thisone excites me because it looks like a car I could actually afford. They're essentially adapting the VW Golf - a very fun car do drive - to use the new plug-in hybrid engine, with the aim of having a test fleet on the road by 2010.
Carbonfund.org last year partnered with the automaker's U.S. arm, Volkswagen of America, to offset the emissions from every VW purchased from September 1, 2007, through the end of the year, or more than 60,000 vehicles.Check out our Tensas River YouTube videoto learn more about the project.
