Carbonfund.org and The Conservation Fund Celebrate Kansas Reforestation Project

As William just alluded to , Kansas really is beautiful this time of year. The weather at Marais des Cygnes (meaning "Marsh of the Swans") National Wildlife Refuge yesterday was perfect as representatives from a dozen different businesses and organizations - including Carbonfund.org - celebrated a fantastic reforestation project developed by The Conservation Fund.
That's all of us above (I'm on the far right) after planting ceremonial trees. The actual seedlings that were planted back in February are all over the field behind us - which is an area less than a twentieth of the total area planted.
It's been a joy for me to have the opportunity to visit projects like this. Not long ago folks who were trying desperately to restore and protect forest land were waging a lonely battle dependent on funding from a handful of wealthy philanthropists. Now, times have changed, and a whole new source of funding has opened up in the form of carbon offsets.
The individuals and businesses around the world that are buying carbon offsets really are making a difference in the effort to fight global warming and restore and protect forests - not to mention the difference that restoring those forests makes to the local habitat and wildlife.
Thanks to our partner Allstate and its Allstate Green program for helping to fund this project, and thanks to hundreds more businesses and tens of thousands of individuals for their willingness to go above and beyond to support more projects like this.
