Mac-Gray Campus Solutions Partners with Carbonfund.org to go Carbon Neutral
[Waltham, MA], [September 15, 2008] Mac-Gray Campus Solutions, North America’s premier contract operator of card- and coin-operated laundry facilities in college and university residence halls, has announced that it is partnering with Carbonfund.org, one of the country’s leading carbon offset organizations, in an effort to make its college and university accounts carbon neutral. By joining Carbonfund.org’s CarbonFree Partner program, Mac-Gray is now part of a national movement of businesses and organizations that are leading the fight against global warming.
Carbonfund.org’s CarbonFree Partner program supports renewable energy, energy efficiency and reforestation projects in the United States and abroad to reduce CO2 pollution and help hasten the country’s transition to a clean energy future.
The partnership is part of Mac-Gray’s “Lighten the Load” program which is offered to college and university accounts. This year, Keene State College in Keene, N.H., Salisbury University in Salisbury, M.D. and Stonehill College in Easton, M.A. are all participating in the program and are among the first institutions in the United States that are operating “carbon neutral” laundry rooms. “Managing our impact on the environment has long been a part of doing business at Mac-Gray; it is yet another dimension of what we call “Intelligent Laundry.” We will continue to make this a serious priority for our company in the future and will work to involve our customers and partners in our efforts,” said Stewart G. MacDonald, Mac-Gray’s chairman and chief executive officer. “Campuses are one of the best places for cutting carbon footprints,” said Eric Carlson, Executive Director of Carbonfund.org. “Students are engaged and aware of climate change and they understand the need to make an individual difference. Mac-Gray already let’s them do that with its energy efficient washers and dryers. Now, thanks to our new partnership, they are taking an extra step and making their campus accounts carbon free.”
The program is in sync with Mac-Gray’s Clean and Green Vision supporting environmental sustainability through the use of high-efficiency front-load washers and dryers, which can cut water and energy usage up to 50 percent compared to traditional top-loading machines.
