Well, we lasted approximately four months – and now all of my kids, who I sent to public school at the beginning of the school year ( read this post ) are home again and we are having a great time. Frankly, while it can be difficult to have everyone in the house all of the time and it’s nearly impossible to get any work done – my kids are such nice people when they’re here. I really like them and I like having them around. That’s not to say I don’t enjoy a leisurely walk to Shopko alone once in a while, but really, I missed them a lot.
There were varying reasons why they came home, but what it came down to was the fact that they were not happy people confined at school all day. We enjoy studying and we enjoy getting out in the world and doing things too. Sometimes we just enjoy hanging out in the house and reading.
I also love that I get to do all sorts of projects with them while their home and rather than each one being crammed in with a bunch of kids exactly their age all day, they get to learn from each other and other people of varying ages.
They help each other and take classes together and separately. They go to the park, they go on walks. They get to be kids – not miniature adults who head out every morning to some boring “job” they hate and come home at night wired and unhappy.
So – if you were one of those who hoped that it would work out and applauded me for doing it – I’m sorry to disappoint (my father included) – my kids and I like it better here – and out in the world – all year round!
