Quite often the news we hear about the environment is not always good. Occasionally a good piece of news comes along that may suggest we’re making a difference in the world. The University of Illinois’s Arctic Climate Research Center have reported arctic ice levels equal to those of 1979. Not a bad way to start off 2009.
Over the past few years we have heard of vast reductions in the amount of arctic ice and more recently, the possibility that the north pole could melt completely.
The arctic ice flow has been referred to as the barometer of climate change since the floating ice reacts more quickly to climate change that anchored ice found in Greenland and the Antarctic.
The increase in arctic ice may or may not be caused by our changing ways, but I’d like to think we are making a difference. Time will paint a more accurate picture of our efforts and we must continue forward with innovative renewable energy sources, electric vehicles and sustainable living.
