An Online Game That Lets Kids Plant Real-Life Trees

Posted Jun 17 2010 10:16am

Computer games Kids are often at their best when they’re getting dirty outdoors. Today’s children, however, are often plopped in front of a computer. Looking for an alternative that combines the two? Try a new online game called Arbopals .

It creates a virtual world that funds real-life tree-plantings in more than 20 countries . Working together with Trees for the Future , Arbopals gives kids (ages 10 and younger will be most interested) the chance to go on adventures in “Arboria,” write songs and play music, earn badges and rewards, and get trees planted in their name. The funding for the tree-planting comes from subscription fees (about $6 per month) and merchandise sold on the site.
