It was a gray, cold day with snow flurries, which are rare and special here in Atlanta and make me instantly happy. I had heard about the new tree swings at a nearby nature center and wanted to check them out. And so there I was, alone in a leaf-covered meadow, dangling from this grown-up swing with my silly yellow socks, wishing I had a cup of cocoa for the cupholder, and catching the flurries on my tongue. Does it get much better than this? Do I ask for much? I'd like to give a public shout-out to my friend, Alan Mothner, who has been the executive director of this nature center* for about a year or so now and has done one fun, interesting, creative thing after another there. These swings (there are four of them scattered about) were funded with a grant from REI, purchased from Pier 1 Imports, and installed professionally by a company named Arborguard, which donated its services and ensured that no trees were damaged and that the right branches to support the weight were chosen. I can't wait to go back, again and again. And I like that hammock idea we were bouncing around yesterday, too, Alan! If you move forward with it, I'd be happy to help. I like hanging out with you. Literally.
