A Carbonfund.org Donor On Eco-Conscious Decision Making

Our donors are a great source of inspiration when it comes to everyday individuals taking action to fight climate change. Here's the latest from Matthew Mirabello, of Ithaca, New York. Matthew decided to support reforestation projects to offset the emissions from his car:
I do not have the disposable income where I can afford to purchase a newer more fuel efficient car AND purchase green energy and local food. I minimize how much I drive my poor mileage car and also try and car pool. But for the times I can't I find that purchasing the offsets is a more ecologically and economically conscious thing to do as opposed to paying higher insurance and car payments only to get 20 mpg more (when I only drive 8K miles a year). For now I perceive it as a voluntary carbon tax that I can at least choose what technologies to support instead of allowing the government to decide.
