Corrective Golf

Posted by C.L. R.

I wanted to check in and see if anyone has any input on this. I just started playing golf and am not yet quite sure of what I'm doing. However, my friends wanted me to play with them so I went out there and played the nine holes. It went fine - but another friend argues that I shouldn't be playing at all until I've had lessons. He argues that, once you start playing, you develop a technique that's hard to shake. As I'm not an expert, I didn't know what to think. So far, I barely know how to hit the ball. I still struggle to take my eyes off of it and know that I'm still bending my arm while I swing. However, I figured that practice is the only thing that will make me get better and what better way to practice than to do? (Instead of having an instructor verbally explain things all day. Yawn.) Let me know your opinions cause I have to admit, it was really fun and I'm planning on going out again soon. But I don't want to if I'm going to ruin my shot to be the next Tiger Woods.

It's important to learn the sport before playing it. Much like playing the piano, you have to learn the keys and to do scales before you can play a song.
