Welcome to the 2nd week of
TUESDAY TUNES!! Each week, I'll share with you a song that has touched me in some way. I hope you'll discover a new song, or hear it in a new way...and feel free to play along and share.
I love this song by Phil Collins. I love this whole album---the soundtrack from Disney's Tarzan. One summer, when Olivia was 3 and Gabe was 2, I think we watched this movie at least 50 times. I always knew I liked the music...and then I really listened to the words. Now I can't listen to it without tearing up. It's such a beautiful song about motherhood. The basic theme is "I'm here for you; I love you for you; I'll always be here." It doesn't get much better than that.
I especially love the line "For one so small, you seem so strong". That's my Olivia. She is this tiny little peanut...and yet she's the strongest person I know. I was reminded of this during this first week of school. It's so easy to forget how hard everything is for her. Just walking takes a lot of stamina and strength. Being in a crowded classroom is sensory overload for her. Seeing all of her friends and teachers and all of the excitement that entails wears her out. Trying to read, write, count, everything is really very hard work. And yet she makes it seem so easy. It's easy to forget that going to school is like one of us running a marathon...every day. She comes home exhausted---mentally and physically. And yet she keeps doing it day after day. She's superwoman, not me.
Of course it reminds me of my boys too. They're in my heart...they are my heart...and they always will be. I love the line "Just look over your shoulder...I'll be there always". Because this is what I hope my children know...no matter what they do, no matter what how they live their life...I'll be there.
Lyrics from You'll Be in My Heart by Phil Collins Come stop your cryin'
It will be alright
Just take my hand
Hold it tight
I will protect you
from all around you
I will be there
don't you cry
For one so small
you seem so strong
my arms will hold you
keep you safe and warm
this bond between us can't be broken
I will be here, don't you cry
Cause you'll be in my heart
yes you'll be in my heart
from this day on
now and forever more
you'll be in my heart
no matter what they say
yes you'l be in my heart, always
why can't they understand the way we feel
they just don't trust what they can't explain
I know we're different but deep inside us we're not so different at all
Oh you'll be in my heart
yes you'll be in my heart
from this day on, now and forever more
don't listen to them cause what do they know
we've got each other, to have to hold
they'll see in time
I know
when destiny calls you
you must be strong
cause I may not be with you
but you got to hold on
they'll see in time
we'll show them together
cause you'll be in my heart
yes you'll be in my heart
from this day on, now and forever more
Oh you'll be in my heart
no matter what they say
you'll be in heart always
always
yes i'll be with you cause I'll be there for you always
always and always
just look over your shoulder
just look over your shoulder
I'll be there...always
