Do you know those times where you feel like your heart will explode with happiness? This is one of those times. They had been dating for a few months and things were going wonderfully well. They spent every second they had together; they hated it when work or school kept them apart.
One night they were having a conversation about the grocery store where they met and He still worked. She was teasing him because she remembered him being the "hot guy" that worked in the meat department and then he left for college. She teased that since He was 20 at that time He probably didn't even know she was alive.
He told her that He remembers the very first time He ever saw her. And it wasn't the sweatshirt night, the night she thought they "first" met. Four years earlier, when she first started working there, they asked for volunteers to help out at the Special Olympics. She volunteered and spent that summer Saturday helping the most adorable little girl, who couldn't walk or talk, cross the finish line in her track race. She was exhausted afterwards, but loved it. A whole group of people from work had volunteered and took a bus out to the event.
He told her "You were sitting in the front with Wendy because you were late; you were wearing a purple tank top and jean shorts; you had your hair in a french braid and you were wearing your class ring. I thought you were beautiful. And you were helping that girl with the walker. You carried her all over the field because she liked it. I thought you were funny and had a great smile."
She was stunned. She didn't remember him being on the bus. She didn't remember even seeing him that day. But He remembered every single detail of her from that day. And he called her beautiful. She was sure no man had ever said that to her before. And funny? Wow. This coming from the funniest person she'd ever met.
At that moment, she knew that Fate had brought them together. She knew from the bottom of her soul that He was the one for her and that they would always be together.
Fate also had big plans for the couple who met for the first time at Special Olympics...don't you think? ;)
