Flashback Part III

About 2 weeks pass since the drunken midnight visit. After class, she checks her mailbox and there's a package.

She never gets mail. (OK, she never got mail from anyone else but her Mom.) The return address is His return address.

Oh my.

She runs upstairs and opens the package as quick as she can. There's a letter and candy (it's Halloween). (She's not that old, ok? But back then we didn't "do" email. We wrote actual letters with our hands and put stamps on them and mailed them. Or we called someone on a home phone. So there. Technology has come a long way in a VERY short amount of time. Ahem.)

The letter says...

Hey how's it going? I just thought I would write you to see what you have been up to. You are going to have to come to Maumee and see my apartment. It is really nice. Maybe one of these days you can come up and I'll make dinner. Surprisigly enough I am a fairly decent cook. Last Saturday I made chicken noodle soup. It was excellent! The feathers kept getting caught in my teeth, but other than that it was good. Ha ha!!

At this point her heart is beating extremely fast...did he just ask her to dinner? At his apartment? As in a DATE????

That night Charlie and I came to see you was a nightmare. Not because (obviously) we came to see you but because I got so drunk. I swear I had a hangover for 2 days.

Work has been going pretty well. I'm glad I lived a home for a while, it made it easier to save money. We have so many new pople at work, you probably wouldn't recognize anyone. I hope you're coming back over Christmas.

WOO HOO! Pit pat goes her heart!!

Well, I'm going to have to cut this letter short because it's my only day off this week and I have a million things to do today.Write me back and let me know if you want to get together for dinner or a movie.

She is freaking out inside. She shows a few of her friends and asks what she should do...should she call? Should she write?

She decides to call. It rings and rings...and the answering machine picks up. She leaves a message.

Three days later...he still hadn't called back.
