Can you out grow Von Willendbrandt's Syndrome( Factor 8) deficiency?

Posted by pstevens69

As a child, I was told I was a "free bleeder."  I went to have my tonsils removed, and I literally almost died.  Many pints of blood, clamping on the roof of my mouth, etc. were done to stop the bleeding.  I remember the horrific brusing that I had on my entire body.  My older son was also diagnosed with the same problem.  He was also having his tonsils removed.  When the blood wouldn't clot, the canceled the surgery.  Except for heavy periods, I have not had any new symptoms or problems.  Could I have outgrown this?  Will it ever occur again?  Both my son and I went to a hemotologist who put a name to the problem.  I am 64 now and I was just wondering if bleeding problems could be in my senior years?
