Yeast Infections: What Are They?

For women, yeast infection is a very annoying condition, especially for those who are commonly attacked by this disease. Yeast infection is a fairly common condition and is caused by the species Candida. The Candida yeast infection is a pathogenic fungus. It affects 3 out of 4 women and some men too. It often is vaginal infection but is sometimes mouth infection too. It usually causes irritation and annoyance and can turn into a very painful ailment too.

Candida is a normal part of the flora of the skin. They grow well in the moist and warm areas of the human body like vagina, foreskin of men and under folds of skin. They are actually always present in vagina, it is their growth, reproduction that causes yeast infection. The acidity of the body controls the growth of the yeast but when acidity change due to conditions like stress, change in diet and sickness, they tend to grow faster.

The yeast infection causes an itching and burning sensation in the affected areas. There are different treatments used for yeast infection. The medical science tries to treat usually by reducing the amount of yeast growing. This is more of a controlling tool than eradicating. However, use of a natural unflavored yogurt is a more traditional treatment that helps in increasing amount of good bacteria in the body.

The question is how do you know if you have yeast infection? There are many factors that spread yeast infection. It is better is every woman knows about them, some of them are:
• Imbalance in your system due to antibiotics and stress
• Wearing tight undergarments or underwear materials that promotes sweating
• Pregnancy
• Taking Pills
• Frequent douching
• Hormonal replacement for menopause
• Diabetes or increased sugar level

You’d still if confused about the infection in you even if you have knowledge about its causes. A doctor can diagnose you of yeast infection after examining the discharge form your vagina. However initially you can suspect having the yeast infection if you have the following symptoms:
• Severe itching, swelling and burning sensation in and around your vagina , so bad that you can hardly walk
• Vaginal discharge that looks like cottage cheese
• Vaginal discharge that smells like bread or beer

It is important to know how can you get yeast infection and if you have really been infected by yeast so that you can be rightly treated to end you r sufferings. The medications do cure the yeast infection but they are recurring in nature. Meaning, if you get yeast infection once, you are more likely to get it again and again in time intervals. And if it is ignored, it can lead to chronic infection.

If your infection is not being cured permanently by prescribed medicines but just been giving temporary relief, you can also try for the natural way of treatment. This also helps when it is recurring in you. It is said that there is a natural way and drug free treatment of yeast infection.
