will the side effects of methylprednisolone go away completely after taking the meds for 10 years?

My father has taken methylprednisolone for over ten years, although he has ceased taking it, the side effects (mainly depression) have not disappeared.  I am wondering if and when the side effects will lessen and is there anything we can do to help him and what can we expect?
