what could cause face swelling on one side

i have swelling  (not hard kind of puffy) on the left side of my face. I did see an oral surgeon and got a clean bill of health from him.  However, it is still there and significantly fuller than the right side of my face.  I do have hyppothyroidism. Could that cause this to happen?
