I cut my right hand just below the thumb area, on the palm side, in the thick padded area just above the wrist. I have lost some sensation in the thumb, but am able to move it, but with pain. I went to an orthopedic hand specialist who did exploratory surgery and found that the median nerve had been lacerated. He was optimisitic that it could heal with time, but is making no promises. I would like to know what kinds of physical or occupational therapy options I might have in order to retain sensation in the digit as well as continue to gain freedom of movement and continue to reduce pain in using the hand. I understand the first step must be to let the actual injury heal before beginning any such therapies.
