The Association for Pathology Informatics (API) and Sunquest Information Systems are jointly sponsoring a series of webinars focusing on pathology informatics. The next presentation will take place on Thursday, September 26, at 1 PM EDT/10 AM PDT. Walter H. Henricks, M.D., Department of Pathology, Cleveland Clinic, will lecture for an hour on the following topic: What is “Meaningful Use” and other EHR-related federal programs. Dr. Henricks is one of the most prominent pathology informaticians in the country and lectures frequently and widely on MU for pathology and the clinical labs.
Electronic health records (EHRs) are transforming the practice of medicine and have significant implications for pathologists, hospital laboratories, and the patients they serve. This presentation will examine the ramifications for laboratories and pathologists of “Meaningful Use” and related federal programs. It will also touch on the challenges and opportunities that laboratories and pathologists face in providing services in an environment of expanding EHR use.

Defining “Meaningful Use” and other EHR-related federal programs.
Recognizing the relevance of “Meaningful Use” for pathology and laboratory medicine.
