One of my radiculously simple joys in medication prescribing is when I can write for one medication that covers two or more conditions. Classic examples include diphenhydramine for insomnia and allergies, terazosin treats BPH and blood pressure, and amitryptiline for, well, pretty much everything else it seems. With its economy and efficiency it takes a step away from polypharmacy. In a medical culture in which it seems piling medication upon medication is the rule this runs counter to it. I just wish I could do this more often.
