How long does it take for hyaluronic acid capsules to provide relief in osteoarthritis? In both my hips the bones are rubbing against the bones. Also, can cartilage regenerate? - Gail

Answer:

Hi Gail -

Hyaluronic acid may provide relief for osteoarthritis. Given that hyaluronic acid decreases as we age, it makes sense that one ingests a superior form of it.

However, many forms of hyaluronic acid will not get to the proper destination - ie. joints - as the molecule is too large to get absorbed by the intestines.

The Hyaluronic Acid by Pure Encapsulations uses technology to assist absorption and increase deliverability. It contains 70 mg of Hyaluronic Acid per vegetarian capsule.

As for how long it will take for symptoms of pain to ease: that all depends on severity of the osteoarthritis.

I would expect some relief after 2 months of taking Hyaluronic Acid.

A product containing high amounts of Hyaluronic Acid along with other cartilage support nutrients is better than just taking Hyaluronic Acid by itself. I recommend a product called Collagen JS.

Collagen JS contains 100 mg of Hyaluronic Acid per 2 capsules. Collagen JS also contains:

- 50 mg Vitamin C. Vitamin C is crucial to the formation and health of cartilage.
- Chondroitin Sulfate 200 mg. Chondroitin sulfate is researched to support joint and cartilage health.
- Hydrolyzed Type II Collagen 600 mg. Type II Collagen is highly regarded as an effective nutrient for cartilage restoration and health.

Collagen JS just recently landed in our warehouse so the product page is not complete at the moment. However, you may still purchase it.

I highly recommend that you try Collagen JS over simply taking Hyaluronic alone. The benefits may likely be noticed faster and be more profound.

Cartilage can regenerate IF joints are aligned properly. Many times there are ligaments that are too loose which cause way too much joint movement. This causes joint grinding and the cartilage gets destroyed.

This is where a specific therapy may provide benefit.

Prolotherapy is such a therapy. Prolotherapy may provide significant relief for those with ligament laxity or joint pain in general.

If you let me know your zipcode, perhaps I can help locate a physician who may help.

I know some excellent physicians in WA and AZ state who specialize in Prolotherapy.

Another treatment that you may do at home is Moor Mud therapy. This is utilized in Europe and Russia for patients with Osteoarthritis. Research shows that Moor Mud bathing reduces pain, stiffness and overall well-being in those with osteoarthritis.

We offer full instructions of how to perform the Moor Mud bath online and we also send them in each shipment containing Moor Mud.

For a great research summary of how Moor Mud Bathing and Mud Packs may help Osteoarthritis, look at this presentation. I actually attended this presentation in Istanbul.

Maintain adequate levels of Vitamin C. Consider taking a few grams of Vitamin C spaced throughout the day.

Vitamin D3 is also indicated in those suffering from osteoarthritis. Here is some research explaining the benefits of Vitamin D3 with Osteoarthritis

Consider getting your blood levels of Vitamin D3 checked. You' ll likely be quite low as most people are. Standard dosage is 2,000 IU per day. That is 1 DROP of Liqui-D3. It is potent.

Should you have further questions, please do ask.

Do update me on how Collagen JS, Vitamin C, Moor Mud and Vitamin D3 benefit you.

In health,
Dr Ben
