We’ve explored some of the more common food allergies and issues folks contend with every holiday season. Now we figured we’d give you some tips about how to host holiday hi-jinks that will have friends and family walking away from your table feeling healthy and happy.
1. Focus on foods found in a Mediterranean diet, as these are heart healthy and contain lots of antioxidants: fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, seeds, whole grains, olive oil (to replace butter), herbs and spices. Anyone trying to lose weight will do right by these foods, and you’ll feel healthier eating them too.
2. Add some vegetarian and vegan options to your spread, without meat and (possibly) animal products. “I am a vegetarian and it would be nice to have non-meat food items that I can eat,” says Sondra Waite, P.R.N., of Northwest’s inpatient PACU.
