Thomas Beatie “The Pregnant Man”

Posted Nov 21 2008 4:33pm

While we have had sex changes and hormone replacement for years, we are set to see the first man give birth to a child with Thomas Beatie expecting a baby daughter in a few months time. It is well known that Mr Beatie was a lady before he had the “full sex change operation”, but what is perhaps a little less well known is the fact that he chose to have his female reproductive organs remain intact. This might shed a little light on how he became pregnant in the first place.

While Mr Beatie has today started the rounds on the US chat show circuit, there are many questions being asked about how this has happened, is it right and more importantly how will the child be affected by the sex change treatment. It is very difficult to know where to start with such subjects as it is a major shock and the majority of us cannot quite understand how it has happened.

Thomas Beatie has made a passionate appeal for understanding about the situation he and his wife find themselves in, and tonight on the Oprah Winfrey Show he claimed that he has every right to have a baby. But are we all missing the point? Thomas Beatie is being marketed as man who is having a baby, but is he really a man?

When we strip down all of the hype and mystery surrounding the situation the fact that the man in question still has female reproductive organs would suggest that he is not a fully fledged man, he is still a woman. It is biologically impossible for a man to carry a child, so is this whole situation just a scam to make money from the US chat show circuit? The situation seems to be getting more and more difficult to understand as each day passes and there are real concerns about the baby in question.
