The most important active ingredients in cayenne pepper is capsaicin, but also a number of other related compounds. Because capsaicin is very alcohol-soluble, tincture of cayenne may be effective as a home-remedy for the relief of mild pain. The preparation should be applied consistently 3 or 4 times daily for up to 2 weeks, or even a month before it is effective. If you can’t find this tincture in your area, simply sprinkle regular cayenne powder into a smooth carrier crème, like butter, lotion, or any skin care cream containing vitamin E. Then, simply rub the mixture into the painful area, such as elbows, knees, wrists, or any other joint affected by arthritis.You will most likely experience skin irritation, itching, and mild burning the first few times you use cayenne, but this will go away within about 10 times of usage.
