The Throw Down

Posted May 29 2009 10:15pm
There are parties and then there are parties. Yesterday our practice had both.

The first grand opening celebration was more of an open house for the community. Patients weren't scheduled to be seen, but all were sent post cards notifying them of our new location and inviting them to stop by for punch and cookies and to take a tour of the new place. I was quite curious who would actually show up at their doctor's office late on a Thursday afternoon just to walk around and see the place. Of the fifty or so who came on through about half fell into the category of nice people who honestly feel we've helped them and the community by being there. The other half were crotchety older folks who frankly had nothing better going on that afternoon.

As the open house wound down in the early evening the space transitioned to the party dubbed "The Throw Down." Beer and wine washed down the more upscale hors d'oeuvres for our families, friends, colleagues, and the guys who actually built the place for us. The night was a perfect finale to a move that has consumed our lives for the past six months.

While moving again is something we hope we never have to do the rest of our careers, if we do at least knowing there will be a throw down at the end would make it not quite so painful.
