The impact of a highly motivated patient on treatment outcomes

There is a lot of research on how the experience and expertise of a doctor and hospital can affect the treatment outcome of a medical procedure. Thus, surgical teams which perform a large number of bypass surgeries have better results as compared to surgeons who do an occasional bypass operation. However, no one has studied how the patient's motivation affects the treatment outcome. I have found that determined, well-informed and highly motivated patients do much better than others. They are active participants in their medical care, and can significantly influence the results of their treatment.
