The Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences

Congratulations to Lewis Cantley , Section Head of the Cell Signalling section in Cell Biology , on being one of the first recipients of the Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences last Wednesday.

The prize, established by Art Levinson, Sergey Brin, Anne Wojcicki, Mark Zuckerberg, Priscilla Chan and Yuri Milner, awards $3 million each to scientists who have made outstanding contributions to biological and medical research, who then join the committee that decides future recipients. The prize is open to researchers of all ages, and the committee considers all nominations through an entirely transparent process.

Among the other ten winners are some former F1000Prime Faculty Members: Shinya Yamanaka , of the Stem Cells & Regeneration Section in the Developmental Biology Faculty, Titia De Lange , of the Nuclear Structure & Function section in Cell Biology, and Hans Clevers , of the Developmental Molecular Mechanisms in the Developmental Biology Faculty.
