July 11-16, more than 1,400 athletes from across the nation will descend upon the City of Steel to take part in the 10th annualU.S. Transplant Games. An incredibly exciting event that threads together people from all walks of life who share the common ties of athletic ability and having received the gift of an organ transplant. Illinois has some of our own transplant athletes such asJenandLaceythat will be competing at the Games and no doubt bringing home some medals (alright, no pressure)! In addition, I've caught word that Georgia blogger friend and liver recipientJoshwill be at the Games as well. You can read more about this year's Games fromthis articlein the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and be sure to check out theTeam Illinois pagecoordinated by theNational Kidney Foundation of Illinois. Be sure to also watch the video below that features some athlete interviews from the 2006 games. Go Team Illinois! -Scott organ donation |
