Snow Job

Posted Jun 15 2013 10:04pm

I read an article the other day about the Edward Snowden saga.  I don’t really have much of an opinion on the matter, but I was surprised by one of the statements he made.

He said the internet is “the most important invention in human history.”  This is quite a warped perspective in my opinion.  Just off the top of my head, I could think of more important inventions:

  • The telephone
  • The automobile
  • The airplane
  • The printing press
  • Firearms
  • Sanitation systems for cities
  • Electricity
  • Various vaccines

And on the list goes.

Is Snowden a hero or villain?  I don’t know.  But I do know that he has overvalued the existence of the internet, and therefore has overvalued his “contribution,” whatever that may be.
