Running at the Speed Limit II

Posted Jul 02 2009 5:55pm

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about how bare feet and natural surfaces may create a type of "speed limit" for natural running.  Now I have come across another system that may beneficially limit speed: nasal breathing.  I am seeing evidence that hunter-gatherers may have breathed through their nose for endurance runs.  I have some other related information that I will put up in the next few days.

I went out tonight and did a short run while breathing through the nose the whole time.  It produces a different experience for sure.  It is much more calming and steady.  I will continue to experiment with this over the next few weeks.
