Probiotics: New research confirms benefits

Posted Sep 14 2008 6:14pm

I learned about the importance of a healthy intestinal flora many years ago. The body must have a certain amount of "good bugs" living in our small and large intestines to stay healthy. Many gastro issues -- including IBS, chron's disease, colitis, etc. -- occur because we don't have enough good bugs to fight off the bad bugs. Eventually, we are overrun by the bad guys.

I had a terrible "gut dysbiosis" for many years, mostly consisting of an overgrowth of candida yeast. To make a long story short, this was mostly the result of a bad diet (lots of processed foods, white flour, and other simple carbohydrates) and far too many broad-spectrum antibiotics as a child.

I read Dr. Mercola's blog today about a recent study done on Probiotics in the American Journal of Gastroenterology (which was also covered at the Science Blog ).

"...86 percent of those treated with a probiotic bacteria mixture experienced relief of their mild to moderate ulcerative colitis."

This is great to have a peer-reviewed study confirm this, but it's not news to me or many others at all. That's just how our intestinal tract works. (Read more about the gastrointestinal system.)

I believe the Probiotics we have developed at Jigsaw Health are great for several reasons. First, the strains are all human-based strains. DDS-1 in particular has many scientific studies showing it's efficacy over a 25-year period.

Second, we pack a LOT of bugs in there. We guarantee 25 billion good bugs when it gets to your door and we even sent the product out for testing. . . in the middle of an Arizona summer!

Probiotics_1 Why did I work with a formulator to design the product this way? Because I wanted something that would work!

I have spent thousands of dollars myself on probiotic products over the years that showed little or no impact on my own dysbiosis. There are approximately 70 trillion bugs in the intestinal tract which has the surface area the size of a tennis court. It takes dietary changes, time, and many "bugs" to fully overcome a severe dysbiosis.

So if you're in the market for probiotics and you don't like fermentted foods or yogurt (like me!), take a look at Jigsaw Health Essential Blend Probiotics.
