Every year thousands of children are injured or killed in automobile accidents. In fact, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, motor vehicle deaths are the leading cause of death for children ages 3 to 14. Most of these deaths could have been prevented if the children were properly secured in their car safety seat or were wearing their seat belt. Research has shown that 7 out of 10 children are not properly restrained when they are traveling in a vehicle. What are some of the most common safety seat and seat belt installation mistakes? Seat is not appropriate for the child’s size or age. Seat is not placed in the proper direction. Harness is not properly secured. Seat belt does not fit properly across the child.
