My Approach To Bringing About Awareness For Vasculitis-Part 3 Using StumbleUpon

Posted Nov 16 2010 12:00am

Hi there and welcome finally to part three of this series on my approach to promoting more awareness of Vasculitis using Social Media, and today I want to focus on my third social media tool…

StumbleUpon.

First, let’s just take a look at just what ” StumbleUpon actually is…

StumbleUpon is a discovery engine (a form of web search engine ) that finds the best of the web, recommended to each unique user. It allows its users to discover and rate Web pages, photos, and videos that are personalized to their tastes and interests using peer-sourcing and social-networking principles.

Toolbar versions exist for Firefox , Mozilla Application Suite , Google Chrome and Internet Explorer , but StumbleUpon also works with some independent Mozilla-based browsers. Third party toolbars have also been created for Safari [4] and Opera [5] .

Okay so the above is the basic idea and premise behind StumbleUpon…now let’s take a look at a basic video of this social media tool…
Okay, so here is my thoughts behind using this social media tool to help spread more awareness for Vasculitis…

When anyone in our little community of vasculitis folks come across an article that is worthy of notice and furthers along our cause of spreading information and awareness of who we are and what we live with, we should just spread the word about that article by stumbling it!
All you need to do is hit the ” I Like It ‘ button on your ” StumbleUpon Toolbar ” and this should bring up discovery window where you can write a short review of the article and also add ” tags ” as far as what the article is related with. You can use tags such as ” vasculitis, Churg Strauss, Doctor,Patient ‘ anything that is relevant to the article. The more stumbles, the more traffic an article will receive, the more attention it draws to itself on the world wide web. The more attention that these stumbled articles draw, the more folks outside of our little sphere of influence are likely to view these articles and learn more about our separate and varied conditions. My thought process is that the more attention drawn to these article, the more viral on the web they become…thus the more influential they become in order to draw more attention to just who we are and what we all live with. Well, this is a pretty simple and yet effective and powerful social media tool, and I apologize for taking this long to come back to this post and this series in general, and yes there is a part four where of course…your participation is really going to become crucial as we delve into …. Video! Oh and by the way…you might just want to Stumble this article too. Lew
