I just received a fax at Pharmacy God Pharmacy from the NCPA. It's a call for pharmacists to call ABC's Good Morning America to complain about a piece this morning where Mellody Hobson encouraged people to order their prescriptions thru mail order.
Ms. Hobson is the president of Ariel Investments, LLC and is Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Ariel Mutual Funds.
I did a quick check of the Ariel Fund (ARGFX). The fund has 4.36% of its assests invested in IMS Health, Inc., a company that works with nearly every major pharmaceutical and biotech manufacturer in the world.
Now why would the president of a mutual fund company encourage people to mail order when her firm is invested in a company that stands to benefit from increased sales of prescription medications?
Maybe instead of having a person with a B.A. from the Woodrow Wilson School of International Relations and Public Policy at Princton give advice on how to purchase medications, ABC might consider bringing in a friggin' PHARMACIST who just might be able shed a little light on the subject.
